Few weeks back Apple’s iPhone
4S hit the stores hoping to satisfy the growing urge of
the Apple fans
to switch from their iPhone 3Gs to iPhone 5, as the latter can only be expected
by 2012. But what they forgot was to address one of the core problem, in fact
they made it worse – fast battery.
Now, many iPhone 4S owners are counting on two options – get their iPhone to work
with a proper fix or throw it away and shift to Android. It’s a ‘do or die’
situation for Apple considering Samsung and Nokia already gaining ground in the
smartphone rankings. To make matter worse, their new battery life fix does not
seem to work. The update came within a very few days, on both iTunes and as the
first over-the-air update on devices--a feature that was added as part of iOS
5. Some complaints mention that once the software fix was installed, the
battery drainage turned worse.
The deteriorating battery woe
A
quick check for iPhone
4S, will throw up thousands of results on the concurring
problem. Some say, the battery drains fast like 10 percent within 45 minutes
and, in worst cases some have even seen it draining 1% every minute. Few
of you, who might be pondering what the battery drainage scene is all about, it
all happened within a week’s time since iPhone 4S release on October 14th.
In one week, Apple saw 4 million smartphone buffs opting to switch their
smartphones mostly the iPhone 3Gs with the new iPhone 4S. But right after the sales
as people took their turns to experiment their new gadget, all they got was a
constantly draining battery dragging their iPhone 4S to low-battery mode within
a few minutes of usage.People scrutinized the causes, and tried different ways
to control the battery drop, some switched off Siri – the first personal voice
assistant that iPhone 4S flaunted, and some even tried draining the battery
completely and then recharging to 100%. But it was of no avail.
Apple’s usual silence and then the not-so-fruitful iOS5.0.1 fix
Initially
Apple tried its normal vow of silence but with the battery drainage contagion
speeding up, one of the Apple team members came out of the dark and revealed
that the problem lied with Apple’s new mobile operating system – iOS 5. Subsequently,
the company introduced their iOS 5 battery fix through its new OS update iOS
5.0.1, but the results are still mixed. While a few have said the fix has
worked for them the other are seen narrating their battery woes across the
different channels in the Web world. The difference in the response can point
to the fact that the underneath hardware bear dissimilarities with some
components differing from the other, considering the multi-sourcing to
different manufacturers to be at par with the demand. The long complaints,
however, has made Apple more conscious and, the company is deliberately
slashing productions and orders. As per reports on the Web, the decision is
more due to component shortage.
Apart
from the battery fix attempt, the update is also aimed at bringing multitasking
gestures to owners of the original iPad, fix a security issue for iPad 2
users with a Smart Cover, and bring an improved iPhone 4S dictation
feature to its Australian users.
